We put browser games on the drafting table and measure what matters

Neostex is a three-person drawing office in Brisbane. Each free game gets treated like a part on a drawing: we dimension how quickly it can be learned, which hand and screen it suits, and how cleanly it lets you walk away. Only then does it earn a sheet. Nothing is hosted here, and every game button takes you to that game’s own page on CrazyGames.

Three datum lines every game is measured from

A drawing is only useful if everyone measures from the same edges. These are ours.

  1. Datum A

    The loop reads clearly

Within a minute of loading, you should know what to tap, swap or drop and why. If a game needs a wall of instructions before it makes sense, it starts behind.

  2. Datum B

It fits the hand you have

We check each game against the screen, orientation and input its CrazyGames page declares, then on the devices people in our office actually own.

  3. Datum C

    It lets you leave tidily

Good free games let you stop halfway without losing much and without a pop-up pleading for one more round. We note where that line sits.

Detail A · Drawing of the month

Fortune Match holds the top of the schedule

Boombit’s match-3 earned the highest mark on this revision because its boards are honest. The goal for each level sits at the top of the screen, the symbols are large and distinct, and a slow, thoughtful swap is never punished by a timer. It is the game Lachlan reaches for on the train home and still enjoys by the time the doors open at Northgate.

The one dimension that holds it back is fit. CrazyGames does not flag Fortune Match for phones or tablets, so this is a laptop or desktop game for now, and we have marked it that way rather than pretend otherwise.

Parts schedule

Five games, ranked by their weighted mark

Each item below carries its mark out of ten, the readings behind it and a short spec strip pulled from the game’s CrazyGames listing. The game names, cover art and descriptions of play come from those listings; the opinions are ours.

Item F-01

Match-3 puzzle

Fortune Match

8.8/10 weighted mark

A tidy, unhurried match-3 dressed in purple velvet and crystal-ball sparkle, with a board that explains itself before you have finished reading the level goal.

Mechanism
Swap neighbouring mystical symbols to line up three or more, clearing the quest set for each level before your moves run out.
Noted on the sheet
  • CrazyGames describes a run of thousands of levels, so there is no practical ceiling for a regular player.
  • Coins collected along the way buy extra boosters when a board gets stubborn.
  • Boombit built it in Unity, and the WebGL version landed on CrazyGames in October 2023.
Specified for
Laptop evenings when you want a puzzle that rewards attention but never punishes a slow move.

Its CrazyGames listing does not flag it as phone- or tablet-friendly, so we drafted this sheet on a laptop and a desktop only.

Item C-02

Idle mining clicker

Coin Picker

8.6/10 weighted mark

A mine you chip through by holding a button, which sounds slight until the first golden chute sends a shower of extra axes ricocheting down the shaft.

Mechanism
Hold to swing your pick through underground walls, fill the bounty with what you dig up, then upgrade the gear and head into the next challenge.
Noted on the sheet
  • Pickaxe parts merge into stronger tools, and later rounds add new kit such as a pitchfork.
  • Hitting the golden chute adds axes, which is the main thing worth aiming for.
  • Runs in portrait and is flagged friendly for iPhone, Android and Chromebook.
Specified for
One-handed play on a phone held upright, or a five-minute pause between other jobs.

Neostex line drawing of an arcade floor plan: rows of game cabinets, a front counter and a door, with dimension lines
Item D-03

Management tycoon

Arcade Tycoon

8.2/10 weighted mark

You start with one dusty room and a handful of retro cabinets, and the pleasure is watching that cramped floor plan fill out into a busy entertainment hall.

Mechanism
Walk your manager around the venue, place and upgrade machines, then reinvest what the floor earns into more space and better attractions.
Noted on the sheet
  • Retro arcade cabinets anchor the early layout before larger attractions open up.
  • Built in Unity, and it plays in either landscape or portrait.
  • Flagged friendly for Android and Chromebook, though not for iPhone or iPad.
Specified for
Longer sittings for people who enjoy arranging a space and seeing it run better each visit.

The CrazyGames page now shows the title as Arcade Tycoon. Its address still uses the older slug, which is the one our button follows.

Neostex elevation drawing of a triangular peg field with coloured balls falling into five buckets
Item E-04

Idle physics

PLINKO!

8.1/10 weighted mark

Chunky cartoon balls ricochet between glowing pegs stacked into a ten-row triangle, and the buckets at the bottom improve the more often they catch one.

Mechanism
Drop balls, collect coins and XP from the buckets they land in, and spend it on upgrades that speed up the next round of drops.
Noted on the sheet
  • An optional reset swaps your progress for Shop Points that stay with you and power up later attempts.
  • Investment milestones unlock movable pegs that you reposition to change how the balls fall.
  • Unlockable skins restyle the balls and backdrops, and the board switches between a light and a dark palette.
Specified for
Keeping something gently busy in a side tab, or a calm wind-down where you mostly watch.

Once the auto-dropper is upgraded the game plays itself for long stretches, which is restful but easy to leave running longer than planned.

Item G-05

Merge drop

Fruit Party

8.0/10 weighted mark

Drop cartoon fruit into a basket and watch matching pairs squash together into something bigger, right up until the pile spills over the rim.

Mechanism
Aim each fruit along the top edge and release it, pairing identical fruit so they merge into larger ones while keeping the basket from overflowing.
Noted on the sheet
  • Each successful merge earns coins that go towards upgrades.
  • Power-ups include basket shakes that loosen a jammed pile.
  • An overflowing basket ends the round, so a run is naturally short.
Specified for
Quick rounds on a phone or tablet, and anyone who likes chasing their own high score.

Pick a load case before you pick a game

Engineers size a part for the load it will carry. Size your game the same way, by the time and attention you actually have.

  • Case 1

    Five-minute load

A short queue, the kettle, a gap between meetings. Fruit Party ends itself when the basket spills, and Coin Picker rounds are brief enough to finish one-handed.

G-05 Fruit Party C-02 Coin Picker

  • Case 2

    Steady evening load

Half an hour on the couch with a laptop. Fortune Match is built for exactly this: one level after another at whatever pace suits you.

    F-01 Fortune Match

  • Case 3

    Long-span load

Games that grow while you tinker. Arcade Tycoon rewards planning across several visits, and PLINKO! can idle in a side tab for as long as you allow.

Tolerances behind the marks

Every game is read against the same six tolerances. The weights add up to 100, and the mark on each card is the weighted average of the six readings.

How we take each reading

The six tolerances behind every Neostex mark, with their weighting
ToleranceWeightWhat we check
Readable loop25Within the first sixty seconds, can a newcomer tell what the game wants from them without wading through a wall of tutorial cards?
Screen and input fit20How well the game suits the screen and the hand you actually have, checked against what its CrazyGames page declares.
Pacing20Whether a short sitting still feels complete, or whether progress leans on waiting around for numbers to climb.
Clean exit15How gracefully the game lets you put it down halfway through: little lost, nothing nagging you to stay.
Finish and sound10Art, animation and audio that still feel pleasant after twenty minutes rather than only in the trailer.
Listing candour10How closely the description on the game’s page matches the thing that loads when you press play.

Elevations: how each screen sees the schedule

Device notes come from the flags on each CrazyGames listing, checked against the hardware on our benches.

  • Laptop and desktop

All five run in a current desktop browser. Fortune Match is the only one we would recommend on a big screen alone.

  • Phone, held upright

Coin Picker was made for portrait. Fruit Party and PLINKO! adapt to either orientation without trouble.

  • Tablet

Fruit Party and PLINKO! suit an iPad or Android tablet well. Arcade Tycoon is flagged for Android tablets only.

  • Chromebook

CrazyGames flags Coin Picker, Arcade Tycoon, PLINKO! and Fruit Party for Chromebooks. Fortune Match is not on that list.

  • Reach CrazyGames by typing the address yourself or through our buttons, never through a link in a message.
  • Give that account a password it shares with nothing else, ideally one your password manager invents.
  • Your email inbox is the master key to every reset, so protect it with the strongest sign-in your provider offers.

Assembly sequence for a first sitting

  1. Choose the load case

Be honest about the length of the gap in your day, then pick a game sized to fit it.

  2. Check your elevation

Glance at the device note on the card so a desktop-only game does not ambush your phone.

  3. Press the Run button

The game’s CrazyGames page opens in a separate tab and Neostex stays where you left it.

  4. Play one round untouched

Learn the loop first, then set the volume and any options once you know what they change.

  5. Set your stopping point

Pick a time or a level count before you begin, and put a timer on if you tend to drift.

General notes

Why would a drawing office write about browser games?

Because the habits transfer neatly. Drafting is about measuring the same things the same way every time and showing your working. We apply that to free games so you can see exactly why one sits above another.

Is Neostex a social casino?

Not in any sense. People use the term for apps where chance-based play runs on token balances that can be topped up with real payments. Neostex has no balance, no shop and nothing to cash in; we review free games and hand you over to whichever platform runs them. The scope sheet spells this out in full.

Fortune Match is the top pick, so why is it marked desktop-first?

Because its CrazyGames listing does not flag it for phones or tablets, and we would rather be accurate than flattering. It still earned the highest weighted mark on the strength of its board design and pacing.

What happens when I press a Run button?

Your browser opens the matching CrazyGames page in a separate tab. From that point you are on their platform and under their terms, and Neostex can no longer see anything you do.

Do studios pay to appear on a sheet?

No studio has paid for a place or a mark. A referral arrangement can pay Neostex a small commission on certain hand-overs, but it has no bearing on the readings; those come from the tolerance table alone.

Where does progress live once I start playing?

On CrazyGames, never with us. Its listings show cloud saving for all five games, so signing in there is how you pick up on another device. Clearing that site’s data in your browser can wipe progress you made as a guest.
